COVID-19 Quarantine as Growth Opportunity

Freedom from distraction is a gift

Quarantine can be your gift or your burden.

You choose the narrative: make this time your servant of growth, or to fall prey to aimless despair.

What will you have to show for yourself when all this quarantine business is said and done?

Will you emerge having grown?

Having gained insight and wisdom?

Having brought your dormant gifts into the world?

Having gotten shit done?

What have you been putting off due to distraction? What have you “not gotten around to”?

It could be as simple as projects in your home, reading books, learning new skills, or as profound as integrating your shadow and doing deep introspective work on your psyche. Reassessing your goals, values, and trajectory.

Or being a better human, a better lover, a better global citizen.

It could be writing those songs, starting that blog, working on that short film, or starting that meditation and exercise routine that slipped away when you were immersed in work, friends, social life, and distractions.

An old friend of mine, who lives in a place with a deep, dark, and long winter once told me that he actually optimistically welcomes the annual freeze. This was much to my surprise, as I couldn’t conceive of how such dreadful cold and lack of vitamin D and sunshine could be good for any human. Although this time of year in this region is undoubtedly challenging, he chooses to interface with this reality in a productive and fruitful way.

How?

He went on to say:

“I actually love this time of year. It allows me a reason to stay in and work on all the things that get either swept under the rug, avoided, or ignored, during the summer months. In the summer I’m inclined to get outside, to be social, to have fun, and that amounts to a lot of value, but it largely doesn’t give me the opportunity to be productive on the homefront, for both myself and my internal world.”

We can choose to see this time as a major asset, and bow to it with honest commitment to converting it into something true and meaningful.

Tap into your inner polymath, tinkerer, creative alchemist, and your introspective healer.

Emerge with something to show for your time stuck at home.

Do not waste the growth opportunity.
